The 1926 Census is here at last!

18/04/2026

The day has finally come! The 1926 census is available on the National Archives of Ireland website. I have spent a very exciting morning looking for my relatives and finding all sorts of interesting things I never knew - such as that my grandfather Francis Doble (only ever a farmer to me) trained as an engineer. It explains why both he and my father knew so much about machinery.Afterwards, I spent time looking at everything with my 22 year old son and found it very emotional to look at these records with him and tell him all about the people who were part of my life but long gone now. I didn't quite expect it would affect me so much but it did. I image there will some tears shed around the country today.
