Preparing for the 1926 Census

06/04/2026

This photo was my granny, Sophie. She will be one of the first people I will look for when the 1926 census of Ireland goes live.... I am counting down with excitement... Just 12 days to go now.

Who will you be looking for? Are you prepared? It may not be quite as easy as we assume to identify a particular family, especially if they have a high-frequency surname. To help you identify the right household, now is the right time to ask yourself what do you know about the person you will be looking for? Have you an idea of their age? Do you know where they might have been living? Their occupation? Other family members who were likely to have been living with your ancestor in 1926?

Talk to your extended family and particularly any older relatives you have.  Best of luck!
